Road Kill

M has had his driving permit for about 2 months now. I have been like a broken record with a statement along the lines of 'speed limit is just that - the limit. You must drive at a speed that allows you to anticipate and respond to anything that might be in the road from a pet, to a person, to a car gone out of control.' "Yeah, OK Mom!" he would answer. Aside from missing his very first ever right hand turn, M has been driving a bit fast, but otherwise with coordination and common sense. Then he had his first mishap. It was dark and there was an oncoming car. We were coming around a curve in the road when a big white something with big glaring eyes was staring strait at the car! I saw it - but M was concerned with the music and the conversation and took no notice until it was too late. We actually heard bones crunching along with the heart wrenching THUD-THUNK-THUD-THUNK - yes both tires! And I dont know what was worse at that point - the sensation of the dead animal or the horrified smothered cry that came from M! Little creatures for miles need heed their fair warning to stay as far away from Cheshire CT as possible!
